Rincon/University High School is proud to announce that our Jazz Ensemble has the prestigious honor of being selected and invited to perform at The Midwest Clinic in Chicago, Illinois, December 18-21, 2018. After a rigorous audition/application process, the 17 member Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of Jeff Marchant, has been selected out of hundreds of applicants. The Midwest Clinic International Band, Orchestra and Music Conference is over 70 years old and will have more than 17,000 attendees from more than 30 countries.
Base paving operations on south side of Valencia Road from Wilmot Road to east of the Kolb Road intersection are ongoing, with the anticipated completion date being Sunday, December 9, 2018, at about 5 p.m. Following this work, crews from KE&G Construction, under contract with the City of Tucson Department of Transportation (TDOT), will begin temporary paving in the Valencia Road and Kolb Road intersection to facilitate an upcoming traffic shift. This temporary paving work will begin Sunday, December 9, 2018 at about 10 p.m., through 5 a.m. on Monday, December 10, 2018.

The next 2nd Saturdays Downtown takes place this Saturday, Dec. 8. Events during the day include a reading of The Polar Express at the Southern Arizona Transportation Museum at 11 a.m., Read to a Dog at the Joel D. Valdez Main Library at 11 a.m., Family Brain Boost at Children’s Museum Tucson at 11:30 a.m., Holiday Horns with the UA Horn Studio at the Hotel Congress Plaza at 3:30 p.m., and street vendors from 2-9 p.m.
The City of Tucson is seeking a locksmith to work in the Environmental & General Services Department. A locksmith maintains the safety and security of City buildings by installing, repairing, or replacing cylindrical locksets, panic hardware, and door closures. A locksmith also follows codes and regulations to ensure compliance with fire life safety codes and the Americans with Disabilities Act.
Zoo Lights, presented by Tucson Electric Power, opens to the public this week. Sip hot chocolate as you stroll through thousands of twinkling lights and lighted animal displays that illuminate the grounds of Reid Park Zoo. There also will be falling snow in the winter wonderland, pictures with Santa, and live music on the weekends. S’mores, sweet treats, and food will be available for purchase.
The City of Tucson Parks and Recreation department is hosting Cookies with Santa on Tuesday, Dec. 18, 6-7:30 p.m., at Randolph Center, 200 S. Alvernon Way. The cost is $2 per person.

The City of Tucson's Planning and Development Services Department (PDSD) is taking suggestions for names and/or logos to help rebrand the NoticeMe platform. NoticeMe is the new tool that gives users the ability to sign up for email notifications regarding land use changes, such as rezonings and variances within the City of Tucson.

The City of Tucson is recruiting water system operators to join its Water Quality and Operations division of the Tucson Water department. The positions are responsible for operating, monitoring, and controlling water treatment facilities and distribution systems utilizing SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) to help ensure appropriate water supply, quality, and pressure.
Fourth Avenue will be the host of the annual Fourth Avenue Winter Street Fair this weekend. The Fourth Avenue Winter Street Fair begins on Friday, December 7, 2018 and is open daily through Sunday, December 9, 2018, from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. Attendance for the Street Fair is estimated to be approximately 300,000 people, so please adjust travel plans accordingly.
