As construction of the new DoubleTree by Hilton hotel at the Tucson Convention Center continues, work needs to be conducted at Cushing Street for the project, so Cushing is now closed between Main Avenue and Meyer Avenue from 7 a.m.-4 p.m. weekdays, through late November. The road will reopen after 4 p.m. each day.

Installation of irrigation components and vegetation trimming in the median islands on Campbell Avenue from Sixth Street to Speedway Boulevard began today. During the work, the northbound median island travel lane on Campbell Avenue will be closed. The southbound travel lanes will remain open.
Crews will work weekdays, 6 a.m.-3:30 p.m., each day. Expect delays when driving in the area. The project is scheduled for completion by the end of November.

The City of Tucson is seeking fun, energetic, and enthusiastic recreation workers to help with KIDCO afterschool programs for children. This non-permanent position assists in planning activities for children ages 5 to 12 (with possible positions for programming of 12-14 year olds), prepares facilities for scheduled functions, and supervises youth activity participants.
Work hours are 1-6 p.m. Applicants must be at least 16 years old to apply. The deadline is Nov. 7.

The City of Tucson is hiring legal municipal interns to provide administrative assistance, legal research, and writing support to attorneys in the Public Defender's Office. Interns also assist with misdemeanor offenses in Tucson City Court.

My office has been fielding calls about two large possible developments about Houghton Road. In addition to having questions and concerns about the details of these projects, we are getting many calls asking about the process. Tucson Parks and Recreation and Humana present the 36th annual Senior Olympic Festival. This festival is a celebration to promote fitness, health, and an active lifestyle among adults 50 years of age and older. Events include volleyball, bowling, bridge, racquetball, basketball shoot, pickleball, archery, golf, tennis, horseshoes, badminton, and so much more. Opening ceremonies will be held Friday, Jan. 10, from 1-3 p.m. at Udall Park Amphitheater.

The annual All Souls Procession and Grand Finale, one of Tucson's signature events, begins at 4 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 3. The 1.5 mile route starts at West Speedway Boulevard and North Grande Avenue and proceeds south to the finale site between the Santa Cruz River and the Mercado San Agustín on West Congress Street.

Safely dispose of any paints, chemicals, oils, pesticides, and certain other items that are sitting unused in your shed or garage. The City of Tucson Eastside Service Center, 7575 E. Speedway Blvd., is open Saturday, Nov. 2, 8 a.m.-noon, for household hazardous waste collection.

Advision, a vendor under contract with the City of Tucson, is responsible for making sure bus stops are clean and maintained. There are more than 1,700 Sun Tran bus stops in the service area and Advision is responsible for power washing (when necessary) and removing litter, including cigarette butts.
