Regional Transportation Authority Seeks Applicants for Oversight Committee

The Regional Transportation Authority (RTA) is looking for applicants to fill two at-large seats on its Citizens Accountability for Regional Transportation Committee. The oversight committee meets as needed and monitors the progress toward implementation of the 2006 voter-approved, 20-year regional transportation plan, which runs through June 2026.

City Recruiting Building Inspector

The City of Tucson is seeking a building inspector for its Planning and Development Services Department (PDSD) to conduct inspections of commercial and residential property and related equipment for conformance with building safety codes. This position also inspects plumbing, electrical, and mechanical equipment and systems to ensure compliance with building codes, plans, and standards.

Tucson Jazz Festival Kicks Off Friday

The Sixth Annual HSL Properties Tucson Jazz Festival runs from Jan. 10-20. The festival features world-class jazz acts performing at the Fox Tucson Theatre, Rialto Theatre, Leo Rich Theater and Tucson Music Hall at the TCC, University of Arizona Centennial Hall, and other venues in Downtown Tucson.

Artists include Mavis Staples, the Afro-Cuban All Stars, the Average White Band, David Sanborn Jazz Quintet, and more.

Create-A-Thon Event for 2020 Census is Friday

The United Way of Tucson and Southern Arizona and the U.S. Census Bureau are hosting a Create-a-thon to generate compelling digital messages that spread awareness about the 2020 census and communicate the importance of a complete count for Tucson.

The event is Friday, Jan. 10, 9-11 a.m., at the United Way building, 330 N. Commerce Park Loop, #200 (boardroom). Participants will learn how to generate content such as posters, memes, websites, comics, mural ideas, and more to catch the attention of hard-to-count community members.

Community Resource Fair This Weekend

Organizations representing the City of Tucson and Pima County, nonprofits, hospitals, education, and faith-based institutions will be hosting a community resource fair Saturday, Jan. 11, 10 a.m.-1 p.m., at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 105 N. Norton Ave. Those attending can learn about resources for employment and career training, housing and transportation, family services, tax assistance, health, and more.

City Hiring Information Technology Specialist

The City of Tucson is recruiting an information technology (IT) specialist to work on the service and field teams of its IT department. Duties include installing and maintaining computer hardware and software (including servers and networks), troubleshooting problems, and providing technical assistance and training to end users in the use of desktop hardware and software.

Broadway - Euclid Avenue to Country Club Road Groundbreaking Event

Tucson Mayor Regina Romero, the City Transportation Department, Regional Transportation Authority (RTA) and Pima County, invite you to a groundbreaking event to commemorate the start of construction for the Broadway - Euclid Avenue to Country Club Road Improvement Project. The event will be held on Tuesday, January 14, 2020, at 10 a.m., on the north side of Broadway, just east of Norris Avenue.

Mayor Romero and other dignitaries will attend the ceremony and help celebrate the start of this major improvement project that is scheduled to begin at the end of this month.

Traffic Signal Work - Stone Ave/Sixth St and Kolb Rd/Escalante Rd

Crews from Next Generation Electrical, under contract with the City of Tucson Transportation Department, will work on the following days at the listed intersection locations to re-wire traffic signals.

Tuesday, January 7, 2020 – Stone Avenue/Sixth Street intersection

Thursday, January 9, 2020 – Kolb Road/Escalante Road intersection

Work at the intersections will take place from about 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. The schedule is subject to change due to inclement weather or unforeseen circumstances.
