Hundreds of New Jobs Coming to Tucson

Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU) announced this week that it plans to open a new operations center in the Downtown Tucson area to better support its growing student body across the country.

The center, which will open early next year, will house academic advisers, student financial services staff, admissions, and IT support. SNHU says it will hire approximately 100 people initially, eventually planning to employ up to 350 new staff members in Tucson by 2021.

2nd Saturdays Downtown This Weekend

Visit Downtown Tucson tomorrow, April 13, and enjoy live music, street performers, restaurants, and street vendors. Events during the day include Living History Days at the Presidio San Agustin del Tucson, SAHBA Home & Patio Show at the Tucson Convention Center, Arizona International Film Festival at the Screening Room, and Family Brain Boost at Children's Museum Tucson. Some events are free, while some require tickets or admission fees.

City of Tucson Hiring Sports Recreation Workers

Tucson Parks and Recreation is seeking sports recreation workers to help with summer track and field programs, road races, and specialized summer events. This seasonal position is an opportunity to gain experience for a first job, and no previous experience is required.

Job duties include writing scores on a tracking sheet and assisting with event setup.

Applications are due by April 28. Oral board interviews will be held during the week of May 5. 

Traffic Alert: Eastbound Congress St Closure, Silverbell Rd to Grande Ave

On Monday, April 15, 2019, at about 5 a.m. westbound traffic on Congress Street, between Silverbell Road and Grande Avenue, will be shifted to the north side of the roadway so crews can begin milling the asphalt and subgrade on the south side of the roadway. Following the traffic shift, Silverbell Road at Congress Street will be closed to all eastbound travel. Eastbound Congress Street travel must detour at St. Mary’s Road. Westbound travel will maintain through access from Congress Street to Silverbell Road.

Ninth Street Road Closure: Speed Hump Installation

On Thursday, April 11, 2019, Ninth Street from Fourth Avenue to Hoff Avenue will be closed to vehicular travel from approximately 9 a.m. to noon to allow for the installation of a speed hump just east of Fourth Avenue.

A second speed hump will be installed on Ninth Street just east of Bean Avenue from approximately 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. Crews will return on Friday, April 12, from 9 a.m. to noon to complete the project. During this work, travel will be restricted to one lane on Ninth Street at the work zone, with a flagger directing traffic.

City Services on Display at SAHBA Home & Patio Show This Weekend

City of Tucson Water, Environmental & General Services, Parks and Recreation, Transportation, Fire, and Police departments will be among more than 300 exhibitors at the 2019 SAHBA Home & Patio Show, April 12-14, at the Tucson Convention Center, 260 S. Church Ave. The City displays will be located in Aisle 1100.

Staff will have information on the variety of services offered to residents and businesses in Tucson city limits. Learn how you can get involved and stay informed.

City Hiring Principal Contract Officer

The City of Tucson is seeking a principal contract officer to procure complex technical services and commodities and manage elaborate procurement projects. The position is responsible for managing a team, reviewing and approving the work of team members, mentoring team members, and acting as a liaison with the different City departments to which they are providing procurement services.

City Has New Residential Parking Permit Option

The City of Tucson is now allowing people to buy or renew their annual residential parking permits through the GoTucson Parking mobile app. To do so, you first need to download the app and create an account (if you don't already have one).

Once you have the app, click the three horizontal bars in the upper left corner, find "Links," and select "Permits." From there, you'll be able to select your neighborhood and follow the prompts to submit your request for approval.
