The City of Tucson is recruiting registered professional civil engineers to join its Water department. Duties include managing water infrastructure projects, reviewing and administering contracts, preparing and monitoring project budgets, and interacting with the public, contractors, and consultants.
Applicants must be registered as a Professional Engineer in the state of Arizona. They must also have a bachelor’s degree and at least two years of engineering experience.
On Sunday, March 1, 2020, Ashton Contractors and Engineers, under contract with the City of Tucson Transportation Department, will close Broadway from Euclid Avenue to Santa Rita Avenue while crews remove two overhead sign structures in the area.
The closure will be in place from approximately 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. Officers will be on-site to help direct traffic around the closure.
Invitations to respond to the 2020 Census will be delivered between March 12-20. Once an invitation is received, people can respond online, by phone, or by mail to state where they live as of April 1, 2020.
During April, census takers will visit those who live among large groups of people and begin conducting quality check interviews to help ensure an accurate count. From May to July, census takers will visit homes that haven't responded to the 2020 Census to help make sure everyone is counted.
Tucson Water has released its Conservation Program FY 2018-2019 Annual Report which covers programs funded from the conservation fee on customers’ utility statements. The fee, now in its 11th year, has allowed Tucson Water to offer customers high-quality conservation and education programs, as well as efficiency incentives.
Since the conservation fee was implemented, more than 2.6 billion gallons (8,014 acre feet) of water has been saved.

Sun Tran is responsible for oversight of the contractor required to maintain and clean the 2,200 bus stops in the Tucson area. Sun Tran will work with the contractor to ensure the stops are powerwashed when necessary and free of litter, including cigarette butts.
Fourteen professional football players have died while serving in combat for our country. One of the most notable was Jack Lummus, a US Marine and player for the New York Giants who was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor posthumously for gallant service at the Battle of Iwo Jima.
Here in Arizona, we have been honoring the service of Pat Tillman since his death in Afghanistan in 2004. Tillman was a standout at Arizona State University and got to play his professional career here in Arizona after being drafted by the Cardinals.
Work began this week on the Five Points Art Enhancement Project at the intersection of Sixth Avenue, 18th Street, and Stone Avenue. The work is scheduled to take place Monday-Friday, 7 a.m.-3:30 p.m., with occasional night and weekend work, until approximately the end of May.
Arizonans who want to travel on or after Oct. 1, 2020, will have to get an identification card that meets federal REAL ID Act security requirements. The new ID card will be needed to gain access to airports, restricted federal buildings, military bases, and more.
It's available as both an Arizona Driver License and identification card. The cost is $25 and the card is valid for up to eight years.
The Downtown Tucson Partnership (DTP) and the University of Arizona Poetry Center will host the second annual Haiku Hike literary competition. The theme of this year’s competition is "Living in the Present Moment."
Twenty winning haiku poems will be printed on acrylic signage and displayed in planters located downtown on Congress Street and on Stone Avenue. Winners will be announced on the DTP website and social media. Submissions will be accepted through March 10.
