City of Tucson Receives Federal Grant for Bus Rapid Transit Corridor Study

The Federal Transit Administration (FTA) announced last week that it awarded the City of Tucson $950,000 to support a comprehensive planning project to improve access to public transportation. The funds are from FTA’s Pilot Program for Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) Planning, which assists communities that are developing new or expanded mass transit systems.

RTA 2020 'Our Mobility' Report Now Available

The Regional Transportation Authority (RTA) recently published "Our Mobility," a June 2020 report on the progress of more than 860 plan projects that were completed through March 2020. These projects have helped widen roadways, expand transit services, improve safety, and more.

The report shows the timeline of various projects, features maps and photos, and has a listing of bikeway, path, and sidewalk improvements.

City Recruiting Assistant Public Defender

The City of Tucson is seeking an assistant public defender to advise indigent clients on a wide range of direct and collateral consequences of criminal prosecution. This is a one-year, grant-funded position and/or a full-time position.

A public defender works under the supervision of senior and experienced attorneys. Duties include defending clients in City Court, performing pretrial functions, and assisting with administrative duties.

Operation Splash Begins

 

Protecting the traveling public on City streets during Tucson’s summer thunderstorm season is the objective of the Tucson Department of Transportation and Mobility’s (DTM) Operation Splash campaign. As weather patterns shift to bring moisture into Tucson, crews from DTM’s Streets Maintenance Division have delivered barricades to hundreds of dip crossings throughout the City.

Unfortunately, Arizona is now among the places where COVID-19 is spreading the fastest. We were warned about this, and it is one of the reasons why I pushed so hard to use a portion of CARES Act money for a testing and plasma program.

My colleagues and I have adopted a strategic plan to use the CARES Act money. The $95 million federal allocation will be spent on things from support for small business to aid for families that are facing eviction due to economic dislocation.
