We had a number of items that we discussed at Tuesday’s council meeting. One of the less controversial, but important ones, was our age-friendly city action plan.
The next 2nd Saturdays Downtown takes place tomorrow, May 11. Events during the day include Tucson Train Day at the Southern Arizona Transportation Museum, Tucson Zine Fest at 191 Toole, and Family Brain Boost at the Children’s Museum Tucson.
The Arizona Symphonic Winds kicks off its spring concert series tomorrow, May 11, at 7 p.m. at Udall Park, 7200 E. Tanque Verde Road. All concerts are free to the public and will begin at 7 p.m. at the László Veres Amphitheater in the park.
Attendees are invited to bring lawn chairs, blankets, a picnic basket, and enjoy an evening of entertainment for the whole family. The concert schedule continues every Saturday at 7 p.m., through June 1.
The Tucson Police Department is hiring police records specialists to maintain criminal records and information in accordance with state, federal, and local regulations. This position will work on several projects simultaneously while prioritizing assignments quickly and remaining flexible to changing priorities.
The City of Tucson's Environmental & General Services Department (EGSD) has a career opportunity for a trade specialist. Job duties include installing, maintaining, and repairing playground equipment, chlorination systems, plumbing and irrigation systems, and upkeep of trees and shrubs at City facilities.
Tucson Mayor Jonathan Rothschild and City Manager Michael Ortega, in coordination with Arts for All, present a new art exhibition at City Hall. Arts for All, Inc. is a local nonprofit which provides accessible education, training, and experiences in the arts to children, particularly those with special needs. Work by 10 artists will be displayed in the Mayor's Office and City Manager's Office.
On Friday, May 10, 2019, beginning at 4:30 p.m., Sixth Street from Warren Avenue to Martin Avenue will be closed to travel for the University of Arizona Commencement. Sixth Street will reopen to travel following the commencement ceremony.

The traffic signals at the Speedway Boulevard and Kolb Road intersection will not be in operation tomorrow, May 9, as crews replace underground conduit and wiring. The work will begin at 8 a.m. and is anticipated to be completed by 4 p.m. the same day. The schedule could change due to unforeseen circumstances.
Police officers will direct travel through the intersection until the work is finished. You can expect delays when driving in the area. Please obey all traffic control signs and watch for construction personnel in the work zone.
