City Continues Closure of City Offices and Facilities Until June 22

Acting pursuant to the authority granted per Tucson Code Section 2-1(b) and Section 21-2(b), the city manager and the director of Parks and Recreation order that the reopening of City facilities to the public is delayed until at least 6 a.m. on June 22, 2020.

Recent statistics from the Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS) and Pima County Health Department (PCHD) show that cases of COVID-19 are increasing in the State of Arizona​ and Pima County.

Department of Transportation and Mobility Prepares for Monsoon

Ahead of heavy monsoon thunderstorms, City of Tucson Department of Transportation and Mobility crews are clearing brush, debris, and trash from the hundreds of washes that cross our city. By doing this before the monsoon, it helps prevent obstructions and allows the flow of stormwater to stay within the washes and not overflow the banks, which could damage properties in the surrounding areas during heavy downpours.

Santa Cruz River Heritage Project: Origins and Evolution Webinar Tomorrow

Tucson Water Director Tim Thomure will be the guest speaker for The Santa Cruz River Heritage Project: Origins and Evolution, hosted by Audubon Arizona, tomorrow, June 9, at noon. Thomure will talk about how the Santa Cruz River Heritage Project developed, how it is evolving, and why Arizona water policy and water management are critical to its existence.

Schedule a Remote Video Inspection as an Alternative to On-Site Review

The City of Tucson's Planning and Development Services Department (PDSD) is concerned about the health of its customers and is maintaining inspection services via Skype, FaceTime, or Google Duo.

Remote Video Inspection is an alternative to on-site inspections that require prompt service and allows scheduling a specific inspection time. Remote Video Inspection uses a video call on a smartphone or tablet in order to interact with a City inspector.

Real-Time Sun Tran and Sun Link App Available

Sun Tran has released a new mobile app to make riding and trip planning easier for passengers. The Sun Tran app features real-time bus and streetcar tracking, trip planning, interactive mapping, alerts, and detour notifications. Riders can locate the nearest bus/streetcar stop, find the current vehicle location, see if it's on time, and check how full a vehicle is before going to their stop.

Paul's Note - June 5, 2020

I’ve read up on George Floyd. He’s about my age and sounds like a person I would have liked to have known growing up. He was from Houston and was a standout football player in high school. He played in Texas’s state high school championship in 1992. Remember how big of a deal high school football is in Texas. That championship was played at the Astrodome.

He was 6’ 6” and called a “gentle giant” and had the nickname “Big Floyd.” His high school friend Donnell Cooper said “He had a quiet personality but a beautiful spirit.”
