While the vote is still too close to call on a pair of propositions that would raise the city sales tax by a tenth of a cent over 10 years to benefit Reid Park Zoo, the races for Tucson City Council were decided during last night's consolidated general election.
Democrat Paul Durham won the race to succeed the retiring Karin Uhlich in Ward 3. Ward 5 Council Member Richard Fimbres will continue on the council, as the Democrat ran unopposed. Ward 6 Democratic Council Member Steve Kozachik beat a couple of challengers to win re-election to his seat.
Voters also rejected pay raises for the Mayor and Tucson City Council. They also rejected a measure that would have added a half-cent city sales tax to pay for preschool vouchers.
