City Unveils First Electric Bus This Week

The public is invited to view the demonstration of Sun Tran’s first Zero-Emission Battery Electric Bus at 9 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 18, on 12th Street between South Scott and South 6th avenues. The event is hosted by Sun Tran, Tucson Electric Power, the City of Tucson, and GILLIG (the leading manufacturer of heavy-duty transit buses in the United States).

Sun Tran is leasing this pilot bus for one year to begin testing the applicability of electric buses. Money from a federal grant will be used by Sun Tran to purchase three additional electric buses.

Those planning to attend the electric bus demonstration can support the environment by using public transit. For more information about the electric bus program and how to get to the event, call (520) 792-9222.
