Construction Set to Begin Soon on New Bike Park

Sonoran Desert Mountain Bicyclists and REI Tucson will kick off construction of the 100-Acre Wood Bike Park, Southern Arizona's first mountain bike skills park, located on the east side of Alvernon Way, just north of Golf Links Road/Aviation Parkway.

There will be a celebratory news conference at the site on Saturday, Jan. 26, at 10 a.m. with Tucson Mayor Jonathan Rothschild and representatives from Davis-Monthan Air Force Base. A volunteer event will run from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. on that day. Volunteers will help clear trail corridors, install signage, and continue site cleanup.

Free coffee and lunch for volunteers will be provided by a couple of local businesses. All volunteers need to bring water, snacks, sun protection, work gloves, and wear long pants and closed-toe shoes. Plan on walking as much as a mile to get to the work site. You can park at or near 2601 S. Alvernon Way. If you have any questions, please email trailsteward@sdmb.org.
