Fire and Police Departments to Hold Joint Drill Highlighting New Equipment

The Tucson Fire Department (TFD) and Tucson Police Department (TPD) will hold a brief joint drill tomorrow, in which the Rescue Task Force (RTF) will simulate rescuing victims after an intentional mass casualty event, such as a mass shooting or bombings. The RTF is a set of teams made up of firefighters and police officers deployed to provide emergency medical care to victims where there is an ongoing ballistic or explosive threat.

TFD recently was awarded a $46,000 federal grant to purchase safety equipment necessary to protect personnel during RTF deployment situations. The equipment will give added protection to TFD personnel so they can safely carry out their tasks on scene. The drill will take place at 7555 E. Dogwood Street (formerly Lyons Elementary School) at 3 p.m. tomorrow.
