Geico has signed a deal to move its regional corporate office in Tucson to a 200,000-square-foot building at The Bridges, near 22nd Street and Kino Parkway, according to an article in the Arizona Daily Star.
Bourn Companies plans to develop the 20-acre site for the insurer, which currently is located near Speedway Boulevard and Kolb Road. Geico is one of Tucson's largest employers, with 2,100 workers. The company says the move will add room for another 700 employees over the next few years.
"They were weighing the decision to potentially leave Tucson," said Mayor Jonathan Rothschild. "Ultimately, we were able to persuade Geico that The Bridges site would be an excellent location for them."
The Bridges encompasses Tucson Marketplace and the University of Arizona Tech Park. Construction of the new Geico site is expected to start in the middle of this year and be completed by the middle of next year. Project partners include the City of Tucson, Arizona Commerce Authority, Pima County, Bourn Companies, and Sun Corridor Inc.
