Living Streets Alliance (LSA), in coordination with the Tucson Department of Transportation (TDOT), recently won a $10,000 grant from the AARP Community Challenge to take action on a project designed to increase mobility and safety and promote public spaces. Grant funds will be used at the intersection of North 6th Avenue and East 7th Street to focus on pedestrian safety and accessibility. Materials such as paint, flexible posts, planters, and street furniture will be used.
The project will be installed over the course of one day, Saturday, Oct. 20, 6 a.m.-6 p.m. The intersection will be closed to traffic during construction. Drivers are advised to avoid the intersection on that day and use an alternate route. TDOT and LSA are looking for volunteers to work in shifts throughout the day.
