Mayor and Council Approves Appointment of Police Chief

The Mayor and Tucson City Council last night approved the hiring of Richmond, California Police Chief Christopher Magnus as the Tucson Police Department’s new chief. City Manager Michael Ortega selected Magnus for the job, but the selection needed approval from Mayor and Council.

Magnus, who will start work Jan. 1, will be paid $200,000 a year during his first year, with a $5,000 dollar increase the following year upon a successful evaluation. He'll replace the retiring Roberto Villaseñor as chief.
