Mayor and Council to Hold a Public Hearing Next Week on Possible Sales Tax Increase

After three town halls and a public hearing, the Mayor and Tucson City Council next Tuesday will hold another public hearing before deciding whether to send to voters a proposal to raise the City sales tax by a half-cent. The hearing will be held during the 5:30 p.m. Regular Meeting at City Hall, 255 W. Alameda St.

The money would be used to fix roads and fund capital improvements for public safety. The proposal currently projects that approximately $50 million a year would be collected from a half-cent sales tax increase, with a cost of $3 a month for each member of a household.
