Mayor to Dedicate New Compassion Garden at Rio Vista Park

Tucson Mayor Jonathan Rothschild and Tucson Parks and Recreation will dedicate a new Compassion Garden at Rio Vista Natural Resource Park, 3974 N. Tucson Blvd., tomorrow, Jan. 18, at 10 a.m.

The garden will be a place for people who are grieving a loss. The park features native and drought-tolerant plants, bench seating, and artistic tiles that include contact information on where to turn for help.

"Parks serve many purposes," said Mayor Rothschild. "Playgrounds and athletic fields are just part of the story. Parks can also be quiet, contemplative places - places for people to seek solace in nature. That's our purpose here."
