Mayor to Participate in Walk to Encourage Kids Who Left School Early to Return

Tucson Mayor Jonathan Rothschild will join community leaders in the Tucson Unified School District's (TUSD) Steps to Success walk to encourage students who have recently dropped out of high school or junior high to come back and graduate.

Volunteers from the community will be paired with TUSD staff and go door to door tomorrow morning to speak with students and their parents about what they need to graduate and what options are available to them - classroom instruction, online instruction, or a combination of the two. Teams will be assigned between five and seven homes to visit.

To date, 384 students targeted in the previous four walks have returned to school and 64 have graduated.
