Ward 4 Tucson City Council Member Shirley Scott and Tucson Parks and Recreation recently celebrated the addition of two new playgrounds on Tucson’s east side.
In March 2017, presentation boards depicting four alternative playgrounds were displayed at the Clements Center, and neighborhood children were invited to vote for their favorite design. The playgrounds installed were chosen as the favorites. Each playground includes separate play structures for children ages 2-5 and 5-12. In addition to the playground equipment, a shade structure was added to provide year-round shade. There also were improvements for ADA accessibility, and new wood fiber playground surfacing was installed.
The new playground at Lincoln Park is located at 4325 S. Pantano Road, where an old one was removed several years ago. Two existing swing sets remain in the playground area and were refurbished by Parks and Recreation staff. The Groves Park playground is located at 7470 E. Juniper Drive. Both projects were completed using funds from Development Impact Fees and the Service Line Warranty program.
