BEYOND EVENT TOMORROW - The annual BEYOND Main Event - Together We Move! begins tomorrow at noon at the Armory Park Senior Center, 200 S. 5th Ave. Activities include a family-friendly bicycle ride, a flash mob dance routine, a movie, a Saturday edition of the Meet Me at Maynards walk/run, a health fair, and much more throughout the day. Other events will be held at various locations (see schedule), and the Sabino Canyon Recreation Area will waive parking fees for hikers from 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. BEYOND commemorates the anniversary of the Jan. 8, 2011 shootings in Tucson and also is dedicated to encouraging the community to come together, go outside, and be physically active.

PLENTY OF DOWNTOWN PARKING FOR 2nd SATURDAYS - Tomorrow is expected to be busy in the downtown area, but there are plenty of places to park. 2nd Saturdays Downtown begins tomorrow with gallery shows at 9 a.m. Live music begins at 3 p.m. at the Scott Avenue main stage at Congress Street.

MEMORIAL SERVICE THIS WEEKEND FOR FORMER TUCSON MAYOR GEORGE MILLER - A memorial service for two-term Tucson Mayor George Miller will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Tucson Jewish Community Center, 3800 E. River Road. Miller served 14 years as a city council member and eight years as mayor, before retiring in 1999. Miller died just after midnight Christmas morning. He is survived by his wife, Roslyn, and eight children, 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Read more from the Arizona Daily Star and the Arizona Jewish Post.

FOUR TUCSON POLICE DEPARTMENT (TPD) EMPLOYEES TO BE HONORED - Three TPD officers and a civilian employee will be honored this month as "Unsung Heroes" during the 10th Annual Tucson Police Foundation Unsung Heroes Banquet, a fundraising event to support TPD training and equipment. Downtown Patrol Officers Charles Foley and Bradley Clark will be recognized for returning American flags to 27 once-barren flagpoles around Tucson. Officer Stephen Placencia will be honored for helping a 91-year-old man obtain care and social services, while also delivering meals to the man until he died last month. He's also being recognized for his work with the Kick Cancer for Stephen Foundation, a nonprofit founded after Placencia’s 17-year-old son, Stephen, died in 2008 from a rare form of liver cancer. TPD civilian Gena Toumey, a secretary, is named an Unsung Hero for her work in the Special Olympics Law Enforcement Torch Run and for helping her 92-year-old neighbor. HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE COLLECTION TOMORROW - Do you have unused chemicals, oils or pesticides sitting in your shed or garage? The City of Tucson is hosting a Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) collection tomorrow at Purple Heart Park, 10050 E. Rita Road, from 8:00 a.m. until noon. Drop off at HHW is free for City of Tucson residents.
