GRANT ROAD REPAVING PREPARATION WORK BEGINS NEXT WEEK - Crews from Granite Construction Co., under contract with the City of Tucson Department of Transportation (TDOT), will begin work Monday to improve the pavement conditions of Grant Road, from Santa Rita Avenue to Columbus Boulevard. Crews will begin the project by lowering covers for manholes and water valves, working in the eastbound lanes from 5:30 a.m. until 4 p.m. and in the westbound lanes from 9 a.m. until 7 p.m. At least one lane of travel will be maintained in each direction. The work is scheduled to be finished by next Friday. Beginning March 30, TDOT will begin resurfacing that portion of Grant Road, with work expected to be completed by April 20. While Grant is scheduled to be completely rebuilt as part of the Regional Transportation Authority (RTA) plan, that work is still four to seven years away, so the City is acting quickly to make needed repairs. TDOT's contractor will use a "hot-in-place" method for resurfacing the road, which minimizes lane closures and saves on costs. The process includes a 100-foot-long train of equipment that removes existing asphalt, mixes it with new materials, and immediately lays the new roadway. Read the news release.
