SUN LINK STREETCAR WINS ANOTHER AWARD - Tucson’s Sun Link streetcar is the winner of the Outstanding Transit Organization award from the Arizona Transit Association. The award was presented this week at the association's annual conference in Phoenix. Sun Link is in its first year of operation on a nearly four-mile track connecting University of Arizona, 4th Avenue, Downtown Tucson, and the Mercado District west of Interstate 10. REID PARK ZOO PROPOSES IMPROVEMENTS - After an elephant birth and a record year for attendance, Reid Park Zoo is looking at future growth. It's in the process of developing plans to renovate structures and engage visitors. In this video, Tucson 12 looks at some of the proposed enhancements.

FOOD FESTIVAL AND CYCLOVIA THIS WEEKEND - This Saturday's Viva la Local Food Festival and Sunday's Cyclovia Tucson make up Tucson Tandem, a full weekend of activities. The Viva La Local Food Festival, presented by Heirloom Farmers Markets and Banner - University Medical Center, will showcase more than 25 of Tucson’s top restaurants, more than 80 farmers' market vendors, and live, local music on the East Field at Rillito Park. Admission is $6, but kids under 12 get in free. Sunday's Cyclovia, sponsored by Living Streets Alliance, The City of Tucson, and other partners will run from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. The bike route will connect Downtown Tucson to South Tucson. Five miles of streets along the route will be closed to vehicular traffic so people can move about freely and feel safe during the free event. Cyclovia is not a race, parade, or competition. ENTER THE DO MORE BLUE PHOTO CONTEST - The City of Tucson Environmental Services (ES) department is hosting a photo contest on its Facebook page to show people recycling. "Like" the Do More Blue Tucson page to enter. Simply take a selfie while recycling, complete a short form, and post your photo to the page. You can be alone or have someone take a picture of you and your family or friends.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR BUFFELGRASS REMOVAL NEXT MONTH - In honor of Wildfire Community Preparedness Day, the Southern Arizona Buffelgrass Coordination Center, Tucson Clean & Beautiful, and Cherry Avenue Neighborhood Association are hosting a buffelgrass removal project. Next month's event also will include neighborhood outreach to share information about the buffelgrass threat with area residents. Invasive buffelgrass is a serious fire hazard that also threatens native vegetation. Volunteers of all skill levels are welcome to help in the May 2 removal event, 8 a.m.-noon, at Desert Shadows Park, 5041 S. Greenway Dr (near Campbell Ave and Irvington Road).
