BICYCLE & PEDESTRIAN PROGRAM COMPLETES ANNUAL REPORT - The Bicycle and Pedestrian Program 2015 Annual Report outlines the City’s progress toward improving conditions for walking and bicycling. The report says the number of bicyclists increased 3 percent from 2012 to 2013, and the number of riders wearing helmets increased 9 percent. There also was an increase in the number of female bicyclists and young riders. A Bike Share program is in the works, with hopes of launching a system by early next year. STATE MEMORIALS THIS WEEK FOR FORMER ARIZONA GOV. RAUL CASTRO - Memorial services are scheduled this week in Tucson, Nogales, and Phoenix to celebrate the life of former Gov. Raul Castro, Arizona's only Hispanic governor. Castro died April 10 at the age of 98. He was an ambassador in three Latin American countries before and after he served as governor for two-and-a-half years in the mid-1970s. The Tucson memorial will take place at 2 p.m. Friday at St. Augustine's Cathedral, 192 S. Stone Ave. A funeral mass is scheduled for 9 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Basilica in Phoenix, followed by a memorial service hosted by Gov. Doug Ducey at 11 a.m. Saturday at the State Capitol.

NOW IS A GOOD TIME TO SEE SAGUAROS IN BLOOM - Saguaros are in bloom at both the east and west districts of Saguaro National Park. That means clusters of white flowers can be seen on many of the park’s saguaros, said Park Biologist Don Swann. "(It's) not only the saguaros, but the cholla and the prickly pear, and a lot of other cacti that are blooming this time of year." Flowers should last for a few more weeks, Swann said.
