TUCSON POLICE DEPARTMENT RECRUITING OFFICERS - The Tucson Police Department (TPD) is accepting applications for the position of Police Officer Recruit. Successful candidates from this testing period will be considered for any funded academy class(es) within the next six months. The earliest academy that will be filled from the list is this September, but the date may be adjusted if necessary. Applications are being accepted through June 28. YOUTH STAKEHOLDER REPRESENTATIVE NEEDED FOR PEDESTRIAN ADVISORY COMMITTEE - The City of Tucson Pedestrian Advisory Committee (PAC) is looking for a responsible and enthusiastic youth, or an adult who works with young people, to represent youth pedestrian interests on the committee. An application for the volunteer position is online. The PAC is made up of citizens who learn about best practices in pedestrian planning and programming, hear from other members of the public, and advise the City of Tucson on pedestrian issues. The City of Tucson is a Federal Highway Administration Pedestrian Safety Focus City and is actively working on improving pedestrian safety and accessibility.

WEBSITE LISTS TUCSON AS HAVING A BEAUTIFUL COMMUTE - BuzzFeed.com ranks Tucson No. 9 in its survey of the 11 Cities with the Most Beautiful Commutes. "You can ride along Rillito River on The Loop or past Santa Cruz River Park and Pantano River Park," BuzzFeed reported. "The Loop in Tucson allows you to get both a scenic commute and great exercise." Seattle, Washington topped the list of cities with beautiful commutes.

TUCSON'S BIKE MAP AVAILABLE AS A PHONE APP - The PAG Tucson Bikeways Map encourages bicycle safety in the Tucson region by informing bicyclists of areas to pedal around the city, including low-traffic route options, low-stress bike routes, bike boulevards, urban trails, and where to cross busy streets. For now, the app only is available on Google Play for Android, but an iOS version is in the works.
