Sun Tran Adds Two More Routes During Strike

With more resources available, limited weekday bus service on Routes 6 and 7 will be offered starting tomorrow. Route 6 serves the Tohono Transit Center to downtown via Euclid and North 1st Avenue. Route 7 serves 22nd Street from Harrison to downtown. During Sun Tran’s work stoppage, limited weekday service is being offered from approximately 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on several routes. Limited Saturday service is offered on Routes 8, 16, and 18, from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Ride Streetcar to UA Football Game Thursday

University of Arizona football fans can ride the Sun Link streetcar to UA football games. Prior to Thursday's season opener against the University of Texas at San Antonio at 7 p.m., fans can experience the dining, entertainment, and retail opportunities at Main Gate Square, Fourth Avenue, Downtown Tucson, and the Mercado District, and then board the streetcar to the UA from any one of the 23 stops along the 3.9-mile route. Once on campus, Arizona Stadium is a short walk from the Second Street and Cherry Avenue stop.

September in National Preparedness Month

This month marks the 12th annual National Preparedness Month from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). As part of the month, Tucson officials are urging you to be prepared for an emergency, such as a multi-day power outage or an interruption in utilities. Be Prepared Tucson advises all residents to create a 72-hour emergency kit. Each member of your family, including pets, should have a kit.

Registration Underway for 9/11 Tower Challenge

Members of the military, police, fire, and first responders will be joining their families for the 9/11 Memorial Tower Challenge on Sept. 11 at 6:30 a.m. at Arizona Stadium. They will climb 2,071 steps, which was the height of the World Trade Center's Twin Towers that were destroyed by terrorists on Sept. 11, 2001.

The challenge is to honor the first responders who lost their lives on 9/11 and the military that serves our country. All proceeds raised by the participants will support the 100 Club of Arizona and the Tucson Fisher House.

Tucson a Prime Location for Logistics Companies

The industrial market in Tucson is getting new attention from distribution companies. New construction and expansion is leaving the vacancy rate at about 10 percent for industrial space. OnTrac, a regional logistics company, is expected to announce plans this week to lease more than 56,000 square feet at Rockefeller Group Distribution Center, south of Valencia and Palo Verde roads.

Tucson Helps City of South Tucson With Trash Collection

Tucson City Manager Michael Ortega last week directed staff to begin delivering old garbage trucks and trash containers to South Tucson. The decision is a week ahead of the next Tucson City Council meeting, which would formalize a temporary lease contract between the two communities after Waste Management severed its contract with the 1.2-mile city last week in a dispute over $300,000 in unpaid bills. South Tucson prepaid for the trucks and containers it's leasing from the City of Tucson as part of the proposed intergovernmental agreement.

Household Hazardous Waste Dropoff Gets Makeover

The Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) collection site at the Los Reales Landfill has a new entrance at the intersection of Los Reales Road and Craycroft Road. The entrance includes a new scalehouse, administration building, and drop-off facility for HHW and recyclables. HHW sponsors public outreach and collection events each month, and 98 percent of materials collected are reused or recycled.
