Summer Movie Series Continues This Week

The Cinema La Placita summer movie series hosts classic movies in an outdoor setting every Thursday night at 7:30, May through August. Hundreds of Tucsonans enjoy the pleasant summer evenings with a different movie each week for $3 per person (includes popcorn).

Thursday's movie is Some Like it Hot (1959), starring Marilyn Monroe, Jack Lemmon, and Tony Curtis.

This year, the movies are shown in the plaza at the Tucson Museum of Art, 140 N. Main Ave.

Street Racers Can Have Their Vehicles Impounded Under New Law (Video)

In an effort to keep streets safe, the Mayor and Tucson City Council recently passed an ordinance giving Tucson Police Department (TPD) officers the power to impound the vehicle of anyone cited or arrested for street racing. TPD recently produced videos in English and Spanish that show the dangers of street racing and the new penalties associated with the dangerous practice.

Electrical Work Underway at Columbus Boulevard and Dodge Boulevard

Underground electrical conduit work began today at the Columbus Boulevard and Pima Street intersection and at the Dodge Boulevard and Pima Street intersection. The work is scheduled to be finished by Friday, June 16.

Crews will be working weekdays from 6 a.m.-4 p.m. During that time, travel lane restrictions will be in place.

The crews, under contract with the City of Tucson Department of Transportation (TDOT), are beginning roadway improvements on Pima Street from Country Club Road to Columbus Boulevard. The reconstruction work is scheduled to begin in the middle of June.

Annual Downtown Run This Weekend

The biggest running event in Tucson happens Saturday night. The 11th annual TMC Meet Me Downtown 5K Night Run/Walk begins at 7 o'clock in front of Children's Museum Tucson, 200 S. Sixth Ave. The race, the first leg of the popular Gabe Zimmerman Triple Crown, has raised more than $150,000 for local charities.

Prior to Saturday's race, there will be the Friday Night Festival of Miles. That event features a series of 1-mile events for men, women, and children of all ages.
