After today's closure of westbound Old Spanish Trail from Houghton Road to 22nd Street, eastbound travel in the same area will be closed tomorrow from 6 a.m.-4 p.m.
The closures will be in place to allow paving crews from Southern Arizona Paving, under contract with the City of Tucson Department of Transportation, to safely apply the final layer of asphalt on Old Spanish Trail. The narrow width of the lanes will not safely accommodate the paving machine, work crews, and motor vehicles at the same time.
The work is part of the four-phase reconstruction of Old Spanish Trail from Houghton Road to 22nd Street. The project is expected to be finished by the end of this month. It's part of the voter-approved, $100 million, five-year Road Recovery street bond program.
