The northbound and southbound lanes on Sixth Avenue between Seventh Street and Sixth Street will close from Monday at 11 p.m. until Tuesday at 6 a.m. to allow Century Link work crews to safely use a crane to install a shoring box at the construction site of the Downtown Links Phase III project.
The multimodal project is nearly halfway finished and will include roadway, safety, transit, and environmental improvements. Downtown Links also features new and safer underpasses and overpasses, railroad crossings, drainage improvements, multi-use paths, improved sidewalks, bike lanes, and public art. The project ultimately will connect Barraza-Aviation Parkway with Interstate 10 and link downtown with neighborhoods to the north.
Construction is funded by the Regional Transportation Authority (RTA), the City of Tucson, and Pima County.
