Professional Hockey Team Coming to Tucson

With unanimous approval of a license agreement from the Mayor and Tucson City Council, a minor league hockey team will make its home at the Tucson Convention Center starting in October. The City says the 10-year agreement with the Arizona Coyotes to bring an American Hockey League (AHL) farm team to Tucson protects the City’s interests, protects taxpayers, and spurs sports tourism.

The agreement was the last piece needed for the Coyotes to buy the Springfield Falcons and move the team to Tucson. The AHL's governing board previously approved the sale, and Rio Nuevo recently committed to spend $3.2 million for arena upgrades.

Meanwhile, the Coyotes have launched a naming contest for the team, and those interested in buying season tickets can put down deposits now.
