A second area between the Tucson Music Hall and the Leo Rich Theater has been renovated to its 1970s glory and will open this weekend. Demonstration Area II is part of the Eckbo landscape, a nearly six-acre space that sits north of the Tucson Convention Center (TCC). Work on the park was funded by a private group called TCC Today, which hopes to renew and maintain the TCC, including the Music Hall, Leo Rich Theater, Arena, and the Eckbo landscape. The TCC improvements and full landscape restoration project are included in Proposition 427 in Pima County Bond Election. The TCC Historic District last month was listed in the National Register of Historic Places because of its importance to the history of landscape architecture in the United States. Landscape architect Garrett Eckbo was considered one of the most influential landscape architects of the 20th century, and his work at the TCC was honored by the American Society of Landscape Architects shortly after its completion.
