As part of the City of Tucson Department of Transportation's Downtown Links Phase III project, Century Link is continuing work to relocate its existing facilities within project limits. Starting tonight at 11 o'clock, through 5 a.m. tomorrow, and the same hours Tuesday night/Wednesday morning, the northbound and southbound lanes on Sixth Avenue between Seventh Street and Sixth Street will be closed. The closure will allow work crews to safely use a crane to install a utility vault in the construction site.
The multimodal project is nearly halfway finished and will include roadway, safety, transit, and environmental improvements. Downtown Links also features new and safer underpasses and overpasses, railroad crossings, drainage improvements, multi-use paths, improved sidewalks, bike lanes, and public art.
The project ultimately will connect Barraza-Aviation Parkway with Interstate 10 and link downtown with neighborhoods to the north. Construction is funded by the Regional Transportation Authority (RTA), the City of Tucson, and Pima County.
