Tucson ranks No. 2 in a national survey of bike-friendly cities. Redfin, a real estate firm, recently published a study of cities friendly to bicyclists in downtown areas. The company ranked the downtown neighborhoods of cities with populations above 500,000 based on their Bike Score ratings on WalkScore.com. The ratings also are based on bike lanes, hills, bike share programs, destinations, and road connectivity.
“Tucson is a gold-level bike-friendly city, according to the League of American Bicyclists, and we’re working to get to the next level," said Tucson Mayor Jonathan Rothschild. "Tucson’s downtown has protected bike lanes, which we’re expanding, and many bike parking facilities."
Tucson also is working with the private sector to launch a bike share program in downtown.
Philadelphia earned the top spot in the Redfin study, followed by Tucson, Austin, Denver, and Portland, Oregon.
