The Tucson Water and Tucson Fire departments have scheduled the annual controlled burn at Sweetwater Wetlands for Wednesday, March 4. The wetlands will be closed to the public that day.
This joint project enhances Tucson Water’s Mosquito Abatement Program and provides a firefighting exercise for Tucson Fire. The alternate burn date is March 11.
Sweetwater Wetlands is located at 2511 W. Sweetwater Drive, west of Prince and Interstate 10. People who may be sensitive to smoke generated by the controlled burn are asked to take precautionary measures or avoid the area. Residents and businesses within a 1-mile radius have been notified by mail.
Tucson Water has again retained the services of Arizona Animal Experts to be on-site for the burn. Since 2002, the Tucson Water and the Tucson Fire departments have conducted annual controlled burns at the wetlands.
