Tucson City Court last night, June 4, began Night Court sessions. Each evening, Monday through Thursday, there will be two or three court sessions that will run as late as 8 p.m. While no end date for this program has been determined, it is expected to be a temporary measure to maintain social distancing while reducing the backlog of cases.
In addition, the court’s walk-up window has been operating for several weeks and diverted thousands of people from entering the building. The walk-up window will remain operational while Night Court is in progress.
Over the past few months, the court has limited in-person appearances and taken other steps to advance social distancing and public safety. These pandemic related measures have led to a case backlog. The court is developing several approaches to reduce in-person court appearances.
