The Tucson Police Department's (TPD) mentoring program began about two years ago in the Operations Division Downtown to connect experienced officers with newer ones to share experiences and insights about the job.
They attend meetings of the Citizen Police Advisory Review Board (CPARB) and the Pedestrian Advisory Committee, as well as spending time with detectives, specialty units, and the force commander. The meetings are based on individual interests and career goals.
The program is one way to address retirements, morale and retention. The first two participants recently completed their time and six more will begin the collaboration next month.
