Tucson Water Offers Tips on Flushing Your Water Heater

Tucson Water offers a one-page document (in English and Spanish) with the procedure for how to flush a water heater. Periodically flushing a water heater reduces mineral buildup on fixtures and dishes, eliminates bacteria that makes hot water smell, extends service life, heats water faster, and saves money on utility bills.

At the start of flushing, the water in the tank may be hot, so allow time for it to cool once the gas or electricity has been shut off.

Water heaters should be flushed at least once a year.
