This Week is Fire Prevention Week

The Tucson Fire Department (TFD) is joining forces this week with the nonprofit National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) to remind residents to "Hear the beep where you sleep." The key message of the national Fire Prevention Week campaign is to install smoke alarms in every bedroom, outside each separate sleeping area, and on every level of your home, including the basement.

TFD says a house fire on Tucson's south side early this morning claimed the lives of three dogs and a cat, although the eight residents and another two dogs made it out safely. Investigators determined there were no working smoke alarms in the home, and the cause of the fire was due to an unspecified electrical malfunction.
