A roadway improvement project began yesterday, April 2, on Congress Street, from Silverbell Road to Grande Avenue, as part of the voter-approved Tucson Delivers: Better Streets program (Proposition 101).
Crews began the 30-day project by lowering manhole and water valve covers. After that, they will remove asphalt, reconstruct the dirt subgrade, install new asphalt, and raise the manhole and water covers level with new asphalt. The crews are now working on the north side of Congress Street, with two-way traffic shifted to the south side of the roadway. Work will transition to the south side of the roadway from Tuesday, April 16, to Friday, April 26, with traffic shifted to the north side of Congress.
Congress at Silverbell will be closed to all eastbound travel during this time. Westbound travel still will be able to access Silverbell. The work is taking place weekdays, 7 a.m.-3:30 p.m., with occasional night work.
