Michael "Mike" Dawson (1953-2008) was raised in Barrio Centro and grew up playing football at Bristol Park. Mike was a four-year starter and All-State in football and wrestling at Tucson High School. He was also a four-year letter winner at the University of Arizona where he was one of the best linemen in school history. Dawson was a first-round draft choice by the NFL St. Louis Cardinals in 1976, number twenty-two overall. In nine NFL years, he played 133 games and started ninety-one. He spent seven seasons with St. Louis, one with Detroit, and one with Kansas City. Dawson returned to Tucson after retiring from the 1984 NFL season.
