In progressive efforts to improve department efficiencies, Planning & Development Services will no longer be utilizing inspections for Window U-Value. This inspection is intended to verify the energy efficiency of fenestration and is an important element of the thermal envelope of a building system. However, due to the volume of inspections our staff is currently managing, they have been instructed to suspend these inspections until further notice.
The City of Tucson will continue to enforce energy efficiency as required by the International Energy Conservation Code. Therefore, information is still necessary during plan review to verify the efficiency of the proposed windows and will be posted to public record serving as the applicant's agreement to meet these standards even though our inspectors will not be taking the time to verify such in the field. Other aspects of window installations will continue to be inspected including but not limited to emergency escape/rescue sizing and safety glazing in hazardous locations.
