A permit is required to perform work on private property. Please refer to the exceptions for work that may be done without a permit. After a permit has been obtained, work may begin. Permit holders must have the work inspected prior to covering it up. For example, foundations must be inspected after the dirt is removed but before the concrete is poured.

Tucson's Planning and Development Services Department (PDSD) would like to announce the availability of a new tool that enables the public to see active development projects within Tucson's jurisdiction.
All approved drainage/grading/SWPPP documents must be provided as electronic file, in addition to the hard copy, for PDSD records prior to issuance of the grading permit. Detailed information will be provided shortly.
The City of Tucson is now performing remote video inspections via Skype.

City Code 16-31(b)(5) prohibits construction noise between the hours of 8:00 p.m. through sunrise Mondays through Saturdays, and at any time on Sundays and legal holidays (Persons may engage in such activities at that person's own residence between 9:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. on Sundays or legal holidays).

Starting on January 9th, 2017 Planning & Development Services will have new service hours for the Permit Counter. Walk through services at the Permit Counter will end at 2 p.m. daily. However, there will be a limited number of appointments available after this time. An online service will soon be available to schedule these appointments.

State law requires that all permitted work on commercial properties, residential rentals, and properties for sale must be done by a licensed contractor.
Effective December 1st, 2015, a letter from the licensed contractor stating their affiliation with the project must be provided to the Permit Counter prior to the issuance of the permit. The letter must include: permit activity number, project address, contractor ROC, phone number and contact address. Letters may be emailed to COTDSDPermits@Tucsonaz.gov or faxed to 520-791-4475.
