Subcommitee Meetings to Review the Sign Code Revision Project

Planning and Development Services Department is currently working with the Sign Code Subcommittee on revisions to the City's Sign Code to address the recent Reed v. Town of Gilbert Supreme Court Case as directed by Mayor and Council.  The Sign Code Subcommittee, which was established/formed on August 9, 2016, includes members from the Citizen Sign Code Committee and from the Planning Commission.

Reinvestment Tools UDC Text Amendment Adoption

The Mayor and Council adopted a Unified Development Code (UDC) text amendment regarding two reinvestment tools, (1) the Major Streets and Routes Setback Relief and (2) Removing the 40-acre Minimum from the Planned Area Development (PAD), on July 6, 2016. The Ordinance No. 11386 became effective on August 6, 2016 and is available from the City Clerk.

Arroyo Chico LOMR effective

The Arroyo Chico LOMR revised the FEMA floodplain mapping for the downtown area. Pima County Flood Control has installed flood control improvements and done technical analysis to make this happen. Many properties will be relieved from the FEMA floodplain and flood insurance requirements can be removed for these properties. A small number of properties will be mapped into the FEMA floodplain based on more detailed studies that reflect current conditions.

Replacing Main Breakers

Inspections are no longer necessary to replace main breakers in electrical service panels

This new policy eliminates the need to coordinate between The City of Tucson and Tucson Electric Power when performing this work. It also eliminates the need for an inspection when de-rating a breaker size often associated with solar equipment installations. We hope this policy improves the service we provide and expedites the process of routine maintanence.

PRO will no longer be "live" effective January 28th, 2016.  It will update twice a day at 12:30 pm and 7:30 pm.  Please be aware when searching PRO some information and recent activity will not be available until the next scheduled update. New Interim Director and Deputy Director of PDSD

Nicole Ewing-Gavin, AICP, has been appointed by Michael Ortega, City Manger, to be the Interim Director of PDSD.  Nicole has been with the City for 20 years, serving as Director of the Office of Integrated Planning for the last 2 years.

Lynne Birkinbine has been appointed by Michael Ortega to be the Interim Deputy Director of PDSD.  Lynne has been with the City for 16 years, and also joins PDSD from the Office of Integrated Planning.

PDSD is excited to have them join us through this transitional stage of our organization.

Urban Agriculture Adoption

The Mayor and Council adopted the Unified Development Code (UDC) text amendment regarding urban agriculture on December 8, 2015. The Ordinance No. 11328 becomes effective thirty (30) days after it is adopted (approximately January 8, 2016) and is available from the City Clerk. An urban agriculture best practices webpage will be available soon from the City of Tucson.
