The public comment period is underway to receive input on renaming the Tucson Police Department Rincon Substation in honor of fallen Tucson Police Officer Erik Hite.

Officer Hite was shot and killed by a fleeing suspect in June 2008 while responding to a distress call involving a wounded Pima County Sheriff's Deputy.

He was a 21-year veteran of the U.S. Air Force and had been with the Tucson Police Department for four years before his untimely death at age 43. Officer Hite was survived by his wife, adult son, and one-year-old daughter, in addition to his parents.

Officer Hite becamse a Police Instructor in 2007, helping police officer recruits with their academy training. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from Park University in 2007 with a Bachelor of Science Degree.

In accordance with the City of Tucson Administrative Directive 1.02-19 Commemorative Naming of City-Owned Physical Assets, the following application has been received and verified for completeness by the Tucson Police Department and is subject to a 45-day public comment period.
