Construction is underway on the new AC Hotel by Marriott in Downtown Tucson at the corner of Fifth Avenue and Broadway. The multi-story building will take approximately 18 months to complete. Daily traffic control set-ups will be necessary in order to construct this new building. Below is the vehicular travel restrictions associated with this construction. Please note that pedestrian and bicycle access is being maintained in and around road closures.
AC Hotel by Marriott Construction – Beginning Monday, January 11, 2016 until approximately May of 2017, the left lane of Broadway will be closed between Sixth Avenue and Fifth Avenue on a daily basis between 6 a.m. and 4 p.m. During the hours of this lane closure, all vehicles in the left lane of Broadway will be required to turn left onto northbound Sixth Avenue. Through traffic should use the right lane of Broadway as they approach Sixth Avenue.
Between the hours of 4 p.m. and 6 a.m., daily, the left lane of Broadway will reopen for traffic and mandatory left turns onto Sixth Avenue will be suspended. However, barriers necessary to protect the work zone adjacent to the hotel site will remain between the left and right lanes of traffic, so no lane changes will be possible during those hours on the block of Broadway between Sixth Avenue and Fifth Avenue.
It is anticipated that this closure will create some congestion during the morning peak travel hours, so motorists that are just passing through downtown to points east in Tucson are urged to use an alternate route, such as Speedway Boulevard or 22nd Street in order to avoid delays.
