Asphalt Removal and Haul - Stone to First/Euclid Intersection Flagging Operations

Crews are currently removing the existing asphalt on the north side of Grant Road from Stone Avenue to First/Euclid Avenue. The pulverized asphalt will be hauled to storage locations along the right-of-way on Grant Road from Tuesday, December 5, 2017 through Thursday, December 7, 2017. To lessen the impact on the traveling public, trucks will haul the pulverized asphalt during non-peak travel hours – 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.

During the haul, flaggers will direct travel at the Stone Avenue, Sixth Avenue and First/Euclid Avenue intersections at Grant Road. Motorists can expect delays when trucks are traveling through those intersections.

Work to widen Grant Road from Stone Avenue to Park Avenue began in March. The improvements include six vehicular travel lanes, protected bike/pedestrian street crossings, drainage improvements, indirect left turns at Stone Avenue and First Avenue, bike lanes and sidewalks, bus pullouts and bus shelters, and public art. The speed limit in the construction zone has been reduced to 25 mph and motorists can expect delays while traveling through the work zone. Please be cautious of equipment and construction personnel in the work areas. The schedule is subject to change due to inclement weather or unforeseen circumstances.

The project is part of the $2.1 billion Regional Transportation Authority (RTA) Plan, which will be implemented through 2026. The multimodal plan, nearly halfway through implementation, includes roadway, safety, transit, environmental and economic vitality improvements. This project is managed by the City of Tucson.
