On Monday, March 9, 2015, crews from Sunland Asphalt, under contract with the City of Tucson Department of Transportation (TDOT), will begin work to improve the pavement conditions on Benson Highway from Irvington Road to Interstate 10.
Crews will begin the project by lowering manhole covers and water valve covers. Lowering the utility covers is expected to take one day to complete. Work will take place from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
On Thursday, March 12, 2015, crews will begin milling (removing asphalt) and repaving Benson Highway. To lessen the impact on the traveling public, the milling and paving work will be done at night from 6 p.m. to 7 a.m., Sunday through Thursday. The repaving work is scheduled to be complete by Wednesday, March 18, 2015.
This pavement improvement project is part of the $100 million, five-year street bond program – Road Recovery. The Road Recovery program is funded by voter-approved bonds.
Residential and business access will be maintained at all times during the project, except for when heavy equipment is directly in front of a driveway. At least one lane of travel in each direction will be maintained during this work. Please obey all traffic control signs and watch for construction personnel and equipment in these work areas. The schedule is subject to change due to equipment malfunction or inclement weather.
