SIXTH STREET – FERRO AVENUE TO ARIZONA AVENUE REPAVING
SIXTH STREET CLOSED DURING MILLING AND PAVING
As part of the City of Tucson Department of Transportation's Downtown Links Phase III project, Century Link is continuing work to relocate their existing facilities located within the project limits.
On Tuesday, March 8, 2016 through Thursday, March 10, 2016, from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. each night, a two block section of Sixth Street from Ferro Avenue to Arizona Avenue just north of Downtown will be closed to travel. The closure will allow crews to mill (remove asphalt) and repave Sixth Street. Crews will reopen the roadway each morning to allow for through traffic.
Downtown Links Phase III – Church Avenue to Broadway – is funded by the Regional Transportation Authority (RTA), the City of Tucson and Pima County and is part of the voter-approved, $2.1 billion RTA plan that runs through 2026. The multimodal plan, nearly halfway through implementation, includes roadway, safety, transit, environmental and economic vitality improvements.
The Downtown Links Phase III project improvements include improved access and connections for pedestrians, bicyclists and motorists, linking Barraza-Aviation Parkway and Interstate 10, and downtown with the neighborhoods to the north. The project also provides new and safer underpasses, overpasses and railroad crossings, drainage improvements, multi-use paths, improved sidewalks and bike lanes, and public art.
