Underground utility relocations, upgrades and removals are continuing for the upcoming start of the Downtown Links Phase III project linking Barraza-Aviation Parkway and Interstate 10, with downtown and nearby neighborhoods.
On Monday, August 29, 2016, Tucson Electric Power Co. and its contractors will begin removing underground conduit and pull boxes on Church Avenue, just south of Sixth Street.
To accommodate this work, southbound Church Avenue will be closed to travel through late September 2016. Please see the map below for more information.
Slated to begin in early 2017, Downtown Links Phase III – Church Avenue to Broadway – is funded by the Regional Transportation Authority (RTA), the City of Tucson and Pima County and is part of the voter-approved, $2.1 billion RTA plan that runs through 2026. The multimodal plan, nearly halfway through implementation, includes roadway, safety, transit, environmental and economic vitality improvements.
The Downtown Links Phase III project improvements include improved access and connections for pedestrians, bicyclists and motorists, linking Barraza-Aviation Parkway and Interstate 10. The project also provides new and safer underpasses, overpasses and railroad crossings, drainage improvements, multi-use paths, improved sidewalks and bike lanes, and public art.
