City Of Tucson Department Of Transportation Prop 101 Better Streets Kick Off Event

The first roadway improvement project associated with the voter-approved Proposition 101 Tucson Delivers Better Streets Program is set to begin following the Tucson Gem, Mineral & Fossil Showcase. To celebrate the start of the Better Streets Program, the City of Tucson will host a kick-off event on Thursday, January 24, 2019.

This event will give those in attendance an opportunity to see the first areas of roadways to be improved as part of the Prop 101 Better Streets Program.

Mayor Jonathan Rothschild, Council Member Regina Romero and others will speak at the event and highlight the upcoming work, the progress of Prop 101 and future projects.  

In May 2017, Tucson voters approved Proposition 101 (Tucson Delivers), a five-year, half-cent transaction privilege sales tax to fund street improvements (Better Streets) and public safety investments (Safer City), with 60 percent of the tax revenues apportioned to public safety and 40 percent to street improvements. Approximately $100 million of the new revenue generated over the next five years will be used for road improvements, with about $60 million for major roads and the remainder to repair local streets.

Funds from Tucson Delivers can only be spent on items that were approved by voters. Two separate citizens' commissions (the Bond Oversight Commission and the Public Safety Tax Oversight Commission) provide oversight of Tucson Delivers sales tax collection and expenditures.
