On Tuesday, March 18, 2014 crews from Granite Construction Co., under contract with the City of Tucson Department of Transportation (TDOT), will begin work to improve the roadway conditions on Grande Avenue from Congress Street to Starr Pass Boulevard. This project is part of the $100 million, five-year street bond program - Road Recovery. The Road Recovery program is funded by voter-approved bonds.
Crews will work Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. The project is scheduled to be complete by Friday, March 28, 2014.
The project begins with crews lowering manhole covers and water valve covers. Milling (removing asphalt) and paving operations are scheduled to begin Wednesday, March 19. Paving operations are scheduled to be complete the following evening. Crews will then begin raising the manhole covers and water valve covers flush with the new asphalt. On Monday, March 24, 2014, crews will begin the reinstallation of speed humps along sections of Grande Avenue.
Because Grande Avenue is a two-lane roadway, pilot cars and flaggers will be used to direct travel through the work zone. Motorists can expect significant delays when approaching the construction zone. Alternate routes include the Interstate 10 frontage road or Silverbell Road.
Residential access will be maintained at all times during the project. Please obey all traffic control signs and watch for construction personnel and equipment in the work area. The schedule is subject to change due to equipment malfunction or inclement weather.
